Balanceability for Parents
Learning to ride a bicycle is one of life's milestones providing children with their first taste of mobile independence.
- Is your child stuck on stabilisers?
- Maybe you haven’t got anywhere to ride safely...
- Don’t worry.....we can help.
Balanceability is delivered by qualified instructors in safe environments designed to provide children with the best possible start in cycling. Balanceability is there to help children - and parents - who may be finding the process of learning to ride a little daunting.

We want children to have the very best experience of cycling.
Group learning based on structured ‘sessions’ (including lots of fun) will help speed up the progression of a child's level of skill.
The Balanceability programme focuses on establishing fundamental and secure balance - which is the most essential part of riding a bicycle.
By establishing the fine and gross motor skills that are required for cycling, children will progress naturally through the key stages and experience the joys of riding a bicycle throughout their early childhood and beyond into teenage and adult life.
Balanceability utilises Balance Bikes throughout the programme in order to teach children the fundamentals of balance, core stability, gross and fine motor skills and the essential confidence that comes with the process of learning a new life skill.
Balanceability courses are run throughout the UK in Leisure Centres, schools and local communities by fully qualified trainers and is a structured two-level programme consisting of 6x 45-minute sessions per level. Much like swimming lessons, parents book their children onto a local Balanceability course and are encouraged to take an active interest in the progression and development of your child towards the specific outcome of independent and confident cycling.
Note: Balanceability does not manage course bookings. You will need to contact a Balanceability Instructor directly to see where courses are available in your local area. See 'Find an Instructor near you' on the home page.
Level one is aimed at children aged 2½ to 4 years old. It focuses on movement patterns, gross motor skills and dynamic balance using a balance bike. Children learn how to pick up, manoeuvre, mount and dismount their bikes and then learn the skills to ride a balance bike safely.
Level two is aimed at children aged 4 to 6 years old and continues the development of gross motor skills and dynamic balance. The main goal is to improve the children’s gliding, stopping and braking skills to enable them to ride solo on a pedal bike safely and confidently by the fifth or sixth session.
